Resilience

Resilience explores the quiet strength that emerges through adversity—the capacity to bend, adapt, transform, and continue growing. Inspired by the stories carried through generations of women, the work reflects the unseen roots of survival: the memories, wounds, wisdom, and love that shape who we become.

Like a tree growing around a wound or a seed pushing through hardened soil, resilience is not the absence of struggle; it is the evidence of life’s ability to continue. The artwork honors the moments when we are changed by what we endure and discover new forms of strength within ourselves.

Drawing from the Buddhist teaching of the Two Arrows, Resilience considers the difference between the pain we experience and the suffering we create around that pain. It invites reflection on how awareness, compassion, and connection can transform hardship into wisdom.

I engage with this idea through the rhythm of gluing, dipping each seed with intention, forming an arrow—an ancient symbol of protection. Rather than resisting or compounding challenges, this practice becomes a meditation in acceptance, transformation, and renewal. The beeswax, with its fluid adaptability, mirrors nature’s resilience, binding elements together just as the seasons reseed the earth. The history of the window remains unknown, yet its frame is intact, and the glass offers a perfect substrate for transparency and perspective—reminding me that clarity and change are always possible.
